Description

4-[4-Chloro-3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-4-piperidinol is a chemical compound that inhibits the growth of microorganisms. It is used as a cross-linking agent, osmosis inhibitor, and encapsulation aid in pharmaceutical preparations. It is also an inhibitor for chemical pesticides and has been studied as a possible treatment for depression. 4-[4-Chloro-3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-4-piperidinol binds to metal hydroxides by hydrogen bonding, which blocks the ability of bacteria to utilize water vapor. This leads to cell death by dehydration. Model studies have shown that it can be a useful treatment for depression because it blocks the reuptake of serotonin into the presynaptic terminal of neurons, increasing its levels in the brain.
