Description:

1-[(4-Chlorophenyl)Methyl]-5-(Trifluoromethyl)Benzimidazol-2-Amine is a molecule that has been shown to cause neuronal death in vitro and in vivo. It binds reversibly to the L-type voltage-gated calcium channels, which are important for neurotransmitter release and neuronal excitability. The blockade of these channels leads to an increase in intracellular calcium concentrations and subsequent neuronal death. 1-[(4-Chlorophenyl)Methyl]-5-(Trifluoromethyl)Benzimidazol-2-Amine has been shown to selectively inhibit granule cell death, while leaving other types of neurons unharmed. This drug can also be used as a blocker of glutamate receptors (NMDA).
