Description:
6-Chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)-3-pyridinecarboxylic acid methyl ester is an anti-infective agent that belongs to the group of trifluoromethylation. It is prepared by the reaction of 6-chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)picolinic acid with methyl iodide and potassium carbonate in aqueous solution. 6-Chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)-3-pyridinecarboxylic acid methyl ester has been shown to have anti-infective activity in vitro against gram positive and gram negative bacteria, with a MIC value of 1 μg/mL. This agent has also been shown to be effective against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex organisms.
