2-Chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)-5-pyrimidinecarboxylic acid phenylmethyl ester (PT16) is a synthetic compound that inhibits the production of the prelamin A protein. PT16 has been shown to inhibit progeria in mice. This drug also prevents the splicing of dystrophin mRNA, which is a genetic disorder that causes muscle degeneration and heart disease. PT16 can be used as a treatment for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
