Product Information
5-Chloropentyl benzoate is a chlorinated aliphatic compound that has been used as a catalyst in the hydrolysis of ethers and as an alkylating agent. It has been shown to catalyze the cleavage of esters, amides, and nitriles. 5-Chloropentyl benzoate can also react with chlorine gas to form polychlorinated aromatic compounds such as pentachlorobenzene. The chloride ion present in this compound is capable of reacting with hydrogen halides to form halides such as chlorides and bromides. 5-Chloropentyl benzoate is a precursor to 5-hydroxymethyluracil, which can be used for the synthesis of thymine.
