Product Information
4-(Trifluoromethyl)-alpha-methylstyrene is a styrene derivative that is used in the production of polymers and plastics. It can be synthesized by coupling 4-bromo-2,5-difluoroaniline with 3,5-dimethylstyrene. The product can be chlorinated and brominated to produce halide derivatives. The reaction yields are dependent on the type of halide used. This compound has been shown to react with acetates to form vinylic esters and it catalyzes the reduction of aryl halides. 4-(Trifluoromethyl)-alpha-methylstyrene is also electrochemically active due to its electron donating ability.
