Product Information
Diltiazem hydrochloride is a calcium channel blocker that interferes with the flow of calcium into cardiac and smooth muscle cells. It binds to erythrocytes and inhibits nitric oxide synthase, which is responsible for the production of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a vasodilator that causes dilation of blood vessels, thereby lowering blood pressure. Diltiazem hydrochloride also exhibits anticancer activity in women by inhibiting histone lysine methyltransferases, which are enzymes involved in DNA replication. This drug has shown to be effective against cancer cells by binding to their DNA and inhibiting its synthesis. Diltiazem hydrochloride has been shown to inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells in culture.
