Zeranol is an antimicrobial agent that belongs to the group of estradiol benzoates. Zeranol is a potent inhibitor of zearalenol, which is a mycotoxin that can cause infertility in animals and humans. Zeranol has been shown to inhibit the biological properties of zearalanone in laboratory animal models. It binds to the x-ray crystal structures of zearalanone and inhibits its activity. Zeranol also binds to cortisol and reduces its concentration in human serum and biological samples.
