Product Information
2,6-Dichloro-3-(trichloromethyl)pyridine (2,6-DCP) is an isomeric compound that is used as an intermediate in the preparation of other compounds. The reactivity of 2,6-DCP depends on the geometry of its halogen substituents. For example, attack by nucleophiles occurs at the chlorine atoms. When attacked by nucleophiles, two different substitution patterns are possible:
1) Attack of a chlorine atom with a nucleophile leads to elimination of HCl and formation of a trihalogenomethyl group:
2) Attack of a chlorine atom with a nucleophile leads to elimination of HCl and formation of a dihalogenomethyl group.
The reactivity also depends on the presence or absence of electron withdrawing groups such as nitro groups or carbonyl groups in the chlorinated ring. In general, attack by nucleophiles occurs
