2-Nonylquinolin-4(1H)-One belongs to a class of antimicrobial agents that inhibit bacterial growth by binding to the receptor. It is a potent inhibitor of p. aeruginosa, bv2 microglial, and HIV infection. 2-Nonylquinolin-4(1H)-One inhibits the replication of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and has been shown to be effective against other viruses such as herpes simplex virus type 1 and influenza A virus in cell culture studies. 2-Nonylquinolin-4(1H)-One has also been shown to have an inhibiting effect on the production of nitric oxide by nitric oxide synthases (NOSs). The effective dose for 2-nonylquinolin-4(1H)-one is determined using magnetic resonance spectroscopy in rat brains. The molecule has a molecular formula C9H8O2 and its chemical structure
