Pueraria lobata is a species of herbaceous legumes that produce a number of phytoestrogens, including 4-hydroxy-L-isoleucine. This compound has been shown to have a low oral toxicity and no detectable mutagenic or carcinogenic potential in rats. It has been used in studies to investigate the viscosity of pueraria lobata as well as the analytical method for determining its content. In addition, it has been identified as an ingredient in dietary supplements marketed to women. Pueraria lobata extract contains many compounds that have estrogenic activity, including 4-hydroxy-L-isoleucine. The extract also contains minerals such as zinc, iron, calcium, and magnesium and can be used to treat corynebacterium glutamicum infections in women.
