Description:

4-Nitroisoquinolin-1(2H)-one is a model compound that is used to study benzene and pyridine N-oxides. It has been shown experimentally to be a hydrazine prodrug that can be converted in vivo to the active form, 4-nitroisoquinoline-1(2H)-one. This drug has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth in vitro by binding to DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are enzymes involved in maintaining the integrity of bacterial DNA. The drug also inhibits protein synthesis by binding to 16S ribosomal RNA.
