3-Nitropyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine is a heterocycle that is a potent anesthetic. It binds to gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors, which are found in the central nervous system and inhibit nerve cells from firing. This drug also has modulating effects on GABA receptors, as it inhibits responses to GABA and enhances responses to other drugs that bind to these receptors. 3-Nitropyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine has been shown to be effective in treating epilepsy and Parkinson's disease through its ability to inhibit the release of gamma-aminobutyric acid in the brain. 3-Nitropyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine also has anti-inflammatory properties due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
