3-Cyanopropyltrimethoxysilane is a cross-linking agent that reacts with metal ions to form polysiloxanes. It is used in diagnosis, where it can be linked to a molecule such as horseradish peroxidase or an antibody to enhance the detection of the target protein. 3-Cyanopropyltrimethoxysilane has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth by binding to the cell wall and inhibiting metabolism, resulting in an increased susceptibility to antibiotics. This compound also induces apoptosis in cancer cells and has been shown to enhance the efficacy of cancer therapy when used with piperazine. 3-Cyanopropyltrimethoxysilane has been found to increase tumor antigen expression levels on melanoma cells, making them more susceptible to immunotherapy.
