Description:

Metaterol hydrochloride is a long-acting drug that belongs to the class of adrenergic agonists. It is used for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Metaterol hydrochloride can be administered as an oral inhaler, or as a tablet for oral administration. The drug has been shown to cause bronchodilation by acting on alpha-adrenergic receptors in smooth muscle of airways, which reduces resistance to airflow. This effect is enhanced by its ability to act on beta-adrenergic receptors in the lungs. In addition, metaterol hydrochloride has been shown to have x-ray diffraction properties and can be prepared via the process of crystallization from a solution containing hydrochloric acid. The crystals are soluble in water and are stable at temperatures up to 100°C.
