2-(Methanesulfonylsulfanyl)-2-methylpropane (MS-MSP) is a reactive electrophile that can be used as a label for chemical ligation and peptide synthesis. MS-MSP reacts with ubiquitin, an abundant intracellular protein, through a chemical reaction to form isopeptides. The resulting conjugates are able to react with other proteins including peptides and amino acids in vitro. The labelling of proteins is a useful tool for studying their functions.
