Mepronil is a fungicidal compound that belongs to the class of ethylene diamine. It is a hydrogen-bond acceptor, which has been shown to inhibit the growth of wild-type strains of fungi and resistant mutants. Mepronil's anti-cancer properties are due to its ability to bind with DNA and form a polymeric matrix with mitochondria. This prevents the production of ATP, leading to cell death. Mepronil also has antimicrobial activity against fungi, bacteria, and viruses. This antimicrobial activity is due to its inhibition of energy metabolism in microbial cells.
