2,6-Dimethyl-4-heptanone (DMH) is a ketone that can be used as a substrate for the production of films. DMH is also a good candidate for use in the manufacture of water-vapor sensors because it has been shown to produce low levels of water vapor. The reaction mechanism of DMH has been studied using mass spectroscopy and found to involve zirconium oxide and sodium carbonate. DMH has been shown to be an effective reagent for the extraction of hydroxyl groups from human serum proteins. It also reacts with picolinic acid, which is found in plant cell walls, to form metal chelates.
