2,4-Dihydroxypyridine is a chemical compound that is a hydrochloric acid salt. It has been shown to have cytotoxic effects against human osteosarcoma cells in vitro and myocardial infarcts in vivo. 2,4-Dihydroxypyridine also has anti-inflammatory properties and has been shown to inhibit fatty acid synthesis and induce apoptosis in endophytic fungus. The mechanism of action of 2,4-dihydroxypyridine is not known but it may act by targeting proteins involved in the apoptotic pathway.
