Description:

1,4-Dichlorobutane is a hydrochloric acid derivative that reacts with p-hydroxybenzoic acid to form 1,4-dichlorobutanol. It also reacts with urea nitrogen in the presence of supercritical carbon dioxide to produce 1,4-dichlorobutanamide. The reaction solution is used as a solvent in the synthesis of perfluorinated chemicals. 1,4-Dichlorobutane has been shown to inhibit locomotor activity and zymogen granules in rats. It also inhibits the formation of ether linkages in proteins by reacting with methanol solvent under constant pressure and at elevated temperature.
1,4-Dichlorobutane is not very toxic to humans because it is not metabolized by humans and has no effect on human cells.
