Description:
2,2-Difurylpropane is a macrocyclic compound that is used as an ionophore. It has been found to be effective in the catalysis of supramolecular chemistry and is also active against anions. The compound binds to calcium ions and may be used in the treatment of hypercalcaemia. 2,2-Difurylpropane can also bind to bicarbonate ions and has been shown to inhibit the formation of acid in the stomach by blocking gastric H+/K+ ATPase.
