4,4'-Dihydroxyoctafluorobiphenyl (F-OHB) is a polyhalogenated compound that has been shown to interact with animal health and carbonic anhydrase. F-OHB has also been shown to cause cancer in animals and humans, as well as being associated with viscosity. It has a low molecular weight and is acidic. The natural compounds found in F-OHB are androstane receptor agonists and hydroxyl group donors. These compounds are constitutive androstane receptor agonists, which bind to the constitutive androstane receptor (CAR), which causes the activation of a response pathway that leads to an increased chloride ion concentration in cells, inhibiting protein synthesis. F-OHB also has a lysine methylation residue, which can be metabolized by CYP450 enzymes.
