Description:

1,3-Diphenyl guanidine is a colorless crystalline solid that has been shown to have a hydrogen-bonding capability. It is used as an industrial chemical and has been studied for its potential use in the treatment of chronic exposure to benzene. 1,3-Diphenyl guanidine has been used as a molecular probe for conformational properties and has also been used in toxicity studies on CD-1 mice. It can be synthesized by reacting sodium carbonate with hydroxylated polyamines. The reaction mechanism is thought to involve an acid complex and kinetic energy. 1,3-Diphenyl guanidine also binds to bacterial DNA and inhibits the synthesis of proteins which are necessary for cell division.
