2,3-Dimethyl-6-methoxyquinoxaline is a synthetic drug that is an acid antagonist. It has been shown to be most active at temperatures below 40°C and is also effective in tissue cultures. 2,3-Dimethyl-6-methoxyquinoxaline has been found to depress mammalian cells and to have a hypotensive effect in vivo. 2,3-Dimethyl-6-methoxyquinoxaline belongs to the quinoxalines group of compounds. The structural difference between this drug and other quinoxalines is the presence of two methyl groups on the side chain and one methoxy group on the ring at position 6. This stereoisomeric compound reacts with picric acid to form a picrate salt that can be used as a reagent for chemical analysis.
