Product Information
4,4'-Di(methylthio)-2,2'-bipyridine (DMTBP) is a luminescent bipyridine that has been shown to have a variety of interesting properties. DMTBP's luminescence is due to the transfer of an electron from the excited state to the ground state. The rate constants for this process are given in Table 1. The most important theory for DMTBP's luminescence is the Marcus theory, which predicts that the rate constant should be proportional to the square root of the transition dipole moment. This theory was first proposed by Marcus in 1968 and then verified experimentally by others in 1971. There are many analogues and theories that have been studied, but none have been proven yet.
