Delta undecalactone is a chiral compound that is synthesized by the fermentation of glycol ether and alkanoic acid. It has been shown to have high resistance against p. aeruginosa, an infectious bacterium that is resistant to many antibiotics. Delta undecalactone inhibits the growth of bacteria by inhibiting fatty acid synthesis, which is essential for bacterial cell wall biosynthesis. This molecule also acts as a non-selective cation channel inhibitor, preventing ions from passing through the membrane of the bacterial cells.
