Description:

2,3-Dichloropyrazine (2,3-DP) is a chemical compound that contains two chlorine atoms. It is used in the synthesis of other compounds and as a reagent for the production of dyes. 2,3-DP has been shown to be carcinogenic when administered orally to rats. In addition, it has been shown to be effective in treating inflammatory bowel disease. 2,3-DP also has antiinflammatory effects and can be used to treat Crohn's disease by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis. The fluorescence properties of 2,3-DP have been studied extensively and have found that they are due to the presence of chlorine atoms. This chemical compound is also able to react with hydrogen peroxide and form chloramine gas.
