Description

4,6-Dichloro-2-(methylthio)pyrimidine is a compound that has an optical rotation of +8.5°. It has a melting point of 175° C and a boiling point of 264° C. The compound can be made via the Suzuki coupling reaction between methylamine and 2-chloropyrimidine. This reaction requires temperatures between -20° and 220°C, which can be achieved by recycling the steps in the reaction. 4,6-Dichloro-2-(methylthio)pyrimidine is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, but insoluble in water. This compound is found to have a molecular electrostatic potential of -0.59 eV, which is typical for primary amines. 4,6-Dichloro-2-(methylthio)pyrimidine has been shown to have antibiotic activity against bladder infection bacteria and crystal x-ray diffraction studies show that
