Description:

2,4-Dibromothiophene is a synthetic precursor to the drug 2,4-dichloro-5-bromophenoxyacetic acid. It has been used as a cross-coupling agent in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds and as a precursor to other drugs, including nicotinic acetylcholine receptor antagonists. 2,4-Dibromothiophene has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells and endometriosis. It also has an effect on metabolic disorders such as insulin resistance and aliphatic hydrocarbon metabolism. This compound has shown no side effects when administered to animals at doses up to 5g/kg per day for 30 days. In addition, it does not appear to be carcinogenic or teratogenic in rats or mice.
