Description

N-(4-{[(2,4-Diamino-6-pteridinyl)methyl]amino}-3-fluorobenzoyl)-L-glutamic acid is a cytotoxic agent that inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It has shown cytotoxicity in both human and bacterial cell lines. This compound is a potent inhibitor of DNA synthesis and RNA synthesis, which may be responsible for its cytotoxic effects. N-(4-{[(2,4-Diamino-6-pteridinyl)methyl]amino}-3-fluorobenzoyl)-L-glutamic acid is an analog of aminopterin, which was used in the treatment of leukemia before being replaced by other drugs. It also binds to DNA and protein in a manner similar to pteridine.
