Product Information
- 3-Quinolinecarboxylic acid, 6,8-difluoro-1-(2-fluoroethyl)-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-7-(1-piperazinyl)-
6,8-Difluoro-1-(2-fluoroethyl)-4-oxo-7-piperazin-1-ylquinoline-3-carboxylic acid (PFEO) is a metabolite of the fluoroquinolone antibiotic gatifloxacin. PFEO is excreted in urine after oral administration of a single dose of gatifloxacin and can be detected by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. This metabolite has a short half life and its concentration in the plasma drops rapidly after administration. Pharmacokinetic studies have been performed with PFEO using various techniques, including two way crossover studies, pharmacokinetics, and vivo study methods. Pharmacokinetic studies have shown that PFEO has a higher clearance rate than gatifloxacin, indicating that it is eliminated more quickly from the body.
