3,4-Dichloro-6-(trifluoromethyl)toluene is an analgesic that is used in the treatment of pain. It is a hydrogenated product of trimethylamine and yields dechlorinated 3,4-dichloro-6-(trifluoromethyl)toluene. The hydrogenation reaction product has not been fully characterized; however, it is known to yield both 3,4-dichloro-6-(trifluoromethyl)toluene and 3,4-dichlorotoluene. This compound also reacts with nitric acid to form a mixture of nitro compounds. The anhydrous reaction product can be used as an analgesic for dental procedures.
