Description

2,2-Difluoro-1,3-benzodioxole (DFBD) is a dihedral molecule that has two meso positions. It can be synthesized by the reaction of phosphorus pentachloride with chlorine atom. The efficient method for the synthesis of DFBD is shown below:

The reaction solution can be acidified to produce HCl and hydrochloric acid. Hydrogen chloride gas is produced when 2,2-difluoro-1,3-benzodioxole reacts with hydrogen fluoride in the presence of sodium carbonate. This gas can be used as a feedstock for chlorination reactions. 2,2-Difluoro-1,3-benzodioxole is an amide and an organometallic compound that forms hydrogen chloride gas when reacted with 2-aminoterephthalic acid in the presence of sodium carbonate.
