Product Information
- 2,5-Dichlorofluorobenzene
2,5-Dichlorofluorobenzene is a halogenated aromatic compound that inhibits the growth of gram-negative bacteria in vitro. 2,5-Dichlorofluorobenzene has been shown to be active against Staphylococcus aureus and other gram-positive bacteria. The inhibitory concentrations for 2,5-dichlorofluorobenzene are in the range of 0.02 to 0.1 mM. This compound was found to be effective against bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics such as erythromycin and penicillin. Single crystal x-ray diffraction showed that this molecule can bind to the ribosomal RNA of bacterial cells and inhibit protein synthesis by preventing peptide bond formation on the ribosome. Carbonylation may also play a role in its antibacterial activity by inhibiting DNA replication or by altering the cell membrane permeability of bacteria.br>br>
