2-Dimethylaminopyridine is a chemokine that is involved in the immune response and inflammatory processes. It has been shown to play a role in autoimmune diseases, as well as infectious diseases such as HIV and tuberculosis. 2-Dimethylaminopyridine binds to proteases, inhibiting their activity which can lead to the prevention of inflammation. 2-Dimethylaminopyridine is also known for its ability to inhibit the production of proinflammatory cytokines by binding to their receptors and blocking their signaling pathways. This drug has been shown to reduce bowel disease symptoms, including diarrhea and constipation, when used with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). NSAIDs have also been shown to be effective against epidermal growth factor (EGF) induced cancer cell proliferation in vitro; this may be due to inhibition of EGF receptor activation by 2-dimethylaminopyridine.
