Description:

1,3-difluoro-2-iodobenzene is a non-selective fluorinating agent that can add fluorine to both aromatic and aliphatic carbons. It is useful for the preparation of substituted phenyls and alkylbenzenes. The 1,3-difluoro-2-iodobenzene has a high reactivity in the presence of lithium diisopropylamide (LDA) and triphenylphosphine oxide (PPh). The reaction with LDA is very fast because it dissociates into its ions. 1,3-Difluoro-2-iodobenzene reacts with PPh to produce an intermediate product called triphenylphosphonium fluoride. This product then reacts with an organic molecule to produce the desired substituted phenyl or alkylbenzene. The selectivity of this reaction is determined by the substituent on the organic molecule.
