3,5-dibromo-2-fluoropyridine is a potent and selective modulator of glucose transport. It was shown to be an efficient method for synthesizing 3,5-dibromo-2-fluoropyridine in a single step from 2,3,4,6-tetraiodobenzene and pyridine. The compound is also a potent agonist at the imidazopyridine receptor site. It has been shown to have high permeability in both rat and human intestinal cells. In preclinical studies, 3,5-dibromo-2-fluoropyridine has been shown to sensitize rats to benzene exposure by inhibiting the metabolism of benzene into toxic metabolites. This drug may be useful in the treatment of diabetes due to its ability to regulate blood sugar levels.
