2,4-Dibromo-6-fluorobenzaldehyde is a ubiquitously occurring compound that has been found in the environment and as a reaction product of metal oxides. 2,4-Dibromo-6-fluorobenzaldehyde can be synthesized by the reaction of an aromatic aldehyde with bromine and hydrochloric acid. It can also be produced by the elimination of 2,4-dichlorophenol from chlorinated phenols. This aromatic molecule undergoes transformations such as rearrangements to form other compounds.
2,4-Dibromo-6-fluorobenzaldehyde is used in various industrial processes as well as in the production of plastics and pesticides. It is also used in environmental applications such as soil remediation and waste water treatment. The major pathway for this compound is through degradation by microbes which transforms it into CO2, H2O, and NH3.
