1,3-Dibromo-5-(trifluoromethyl)benzene (DBTB) is a chemical compound that belongs to the class of frameworks. It is an inhibitor of bacterial hydrolases and has shown to have an effect against the growth of gram-negative pathogens such as Pneumoniae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and K. pneumoniae. The synthesis of DBTB involves a nucleophilic attack on 1,3-dibromobenzene by a phosphorylated pyrophosphate. This enzyme inhibitor is synthesized in two steps: first, the formation of a halide salt with piperazine followed by its reaction with hydrogen peroxide. The active site for this molecule was determined using X-ray diffraction analysis and ligand binding studies show that it binds to the active site at the catalytic site of the enzyme.
