1-Decyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate is a quaternary ammonium compound that is used to immobilize pollutants. It can be used in conjunction with butanol to remove nitrides from water. 1-Decyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate has been shown to adsorb chloride and metal ions, such as copper and iron, from aqueous solutions. This compound is also able to extract basic dyes from aqueous solutions by forming complexes.
