2,4-Dinitrophenyl thiocyanate is a fluorescent dye that is used to diagnose bowel disease. It binds to glutamate, the neurotransmitter found in high levels in the brain and central nervous system. This dye is used as an irreversible inhibitor of atp channels and causes significant changes in transcriptional regulation. The 2,4-dinitrophenyl thiocyanate can be used to identify cancer cells in breast tissue by binding to the monoclonal antibody (MDA-MB-231). 2,4-Dinitrophenyl thiocyanate can also be detected with a fluorescence microscope or by silver staining. Benzalkonium chloride (BAC) has been shown to inhibit the activity of this dye and should not be used for any diagnostic purposes.
