Description

2,3-Dihydrobenzo[b]furan-5-carboxylic acid is a chiral compound that belongs to the group of liquid crystals. It has been shown to be an optically active, ferroelectric liquid crystal that can be used for responsive and orienting purposes. The 2,3-Dihydrobenzo[b]furan-5-carboxylic acid composition can be hydrolyzed by alkyl ester or chiral reagents to produce optical, crystalline dihydrobenzofuran. This compound has also been studied as a potential drug candidate for treatment of Alzheimer's disease due to its ability to inhibit the production of beta amyloid protein and prevent it from aggregating.
