2,5-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid is a naturally occurring organic acid that belongs to the family of phenoxy acetic acids. It is used as a plant growth regulator and has been shown to have cancer-inhibiting properties. 2,5-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid has been shown to be effective in vitro against human cancer cells, such as prostate and breast cancers. This compound is synthesized by the reaction of 2,5-dichloroaniline with acetic anhydride. The synthesis of 2,5-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid can be achieved in high yields when it is carried out in dimethylformamide or triticum aestivum.
