Piperidine is a chemical compound that has the chemical formula CH3CONH2. It is a colorless, water-soluble liquid with an ammonia-like odor. Piperidine reacts with many other compounds in chemical reactions to form piperidines, which are used in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, dyes, pesticides, and rubber products. The molecule is planar and all three N-H bonds are equivalent, which indicates that it is not chiral.

Piperidine has been shown to react with chlorine and chloramine under conditions of microwave irradiation to produce 2-chloro-4,6-dihydroxy-5-nitropyrimidine (2CDNP). This reaction was found to be efficient at low temperatures and atmospheric pressure. 2CDNP has also been shown to be reactive with nitro groups in molecules such as aniline hydrochloride or benzene diazonium chloride to form nitroso derivatives.
