Product Information
- Benzenepropanoic Acid, 3,4-Dihydroxy-, Hydrazide
3-(3,4-Dihydroxyphenyl)propanohydrazide (DHPHP) is a hydrazide prodrug that has been found to act as a synergistic agent with doxorubicin, an anticancer drug. 3DHPHP can be synthesized by the reaction of 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde and propanol. It has been shown to inhibit tumor growth and metastasis in animal models. The hydrazide bond between the two molecules is broken down by enzymes that are only found in the tumor tissue, releasing DHPHP into the cell. Once inside the cell, DHPHP is converted to DHP which inhibits DNA synthesis and leads to apoptosis. This process is called "theranostics" because it can be used for both diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
