Description

4,5-Dimethyl-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol is a potentiometric titrant that is used in the titration of other compounds. It functions by binding to metal ions and forming a complex. This complex can be reduced back to 4,5-dimethyl-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol by adding an oxidizing agent such as potassium dichromate or hydrogen peroxide. The redox system of this compound is reversible and has been shown to be temperature dependent. The formation constants and reversibility constants are related to the thermodynamic properties of this compound.
