4,4-Dimethyl-5-oxopentanenitrile is a liquid compound that is used as a cycloalkylating agent. It is an analog of acrylonitrile and has been shown to be a very good catalyst for the synthesis of piperidine derivatives. 4,4-Dimethyl-5-oxopentanenitrile is also utilized in the manufacture of other carbonyl compounds with either an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic group.
