5,5-Dimethylpyrrolidin-2-one is a compound that can be synthesized from an annulation reaction between acetaldehyde and formaldehyde. It is used as a catalyst for hydrogenation reactions, such as the reduction of nitrobenzene to aniline. 5,5-Dimethylpyrrolidin-2-one also reacts with ethers in the presence of catalysts to produce cyclopentanol and cyclohexanol.
