Description:

2,5-Dimethyl-1H-indole is a dipole that can be synthesized using a phenylhydrazone as an intermediate. It has been used to treat inflammatory diseases by inhibiting the activity of leukocytes and other inflammatory cells. 2,5-Dimethyl-1H-indole is also known to inhibit the synthesis of prostaglandins. The condensation products of 2,5-dimethyl-1H-indole have been shown to be effective in the treatment of asthma and other respiratory disorders. The linear response of 2,5-dimethyl-1H-indole makes it an ideal chromatographic agent for the detection of small quantities of molecules. The chemical structure and UV absorption properties make 2,5-dimethyl-1H-indole a useful synthetic intermediate in various chemical processes.
