Product Information
- trans-Stilbene-4,4-dicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester
- Trans-Stilbene-dicarboxylic acid-( 4,4')-dimethyl ester
Dimethyl transstilbene-4,4-dicarboxylic acid (DMTDC) is a dimethyl ester of transstilbene. It is prepared by dehydration of the corresponding methyl ester with ethane and acetylating with acetyl chloride in the presence of catalytic amounts of pyridine. DMTDC is used as an intermediate in the preparation of other compounds, such as acetoxybenzaldehyde and benzophenone. The selective acetylation of DMTDC can be achieved by reacting it with acetic anhydride and pyridine to yield 2-acetoxybenzaldehyde. DMTDC is also a convenient synthesis precursor for pyrolysis products such as 1,2,3-trimethoxybenzene.
